ABOUT DOME

As the tagline states, Dome magazine covers “the people, issues and events shaping Michigan politics and policy.” But what does that mean?

It means Dome’s mission is to give you a better understanding of what’s going on in Michigan when it comes to influencing and making public policy. The normal news fare of press conferences, speeches and legislative votes is only a small part of the fuller story Dome attempts to bring you. This larger story includes the persuaders, personalities, relationships and forces at work, be they in or far from Lansing.

In bringing you this story, the last thing we want to do is bore you to death. We want to show and tell you what’s going on in a colorful, stylish way that can enlighten, even entertain. Which isn’t hard when we’re writing about what’s under the wizard’s curtain and not about the bells and whistles on the outside. The arena of politics and policy can be a fascinating one if you’ve got the right ticket.

Dome’s content bears a resemblance to the former michigan lobbyist magazine, a unique, quarterly, print magazine that was published from 2003–2006. In launching Dome, our goal was to restructure the magazine in a way that it would come back bigger, better, broader in scope, less expensive and more frequent. Bigger-Better-Broader became our mantra. We didn’t expect to end up online. But as the advantages of producing a quality online magazine became clear, we wondered why we didn’t do it this way from the start.

Readers benefit from free content they can’t get anywhere else. Advertisers benefit from a potential unlimited audience and lower rates. And everyone benefits from not having to wait weeks or months for information to struggle through the lengthy production and distribution system composed of printers, mailers and postal workers.

So, here we are. This is what Dome is about. Please, please, please let us know how we’re doing and how we can do an even better job for you.
